A list of ‘glimmers’ from twenty twenty-three ~ sparks of life to nurture and carry into a new year.
Gàidhlig, the language of the land. Where owls are eldritch beings and the hills silently guard vast name-hoards. Speaking this ancient tongue feels like a gasp of mountain air or a hot rush of blood, stirring the land and my soul to life.
(As an aside, I have so enjoyed sharing my passion for Gaelic with you on Instagram throughout December!)
Water sweeter than tears. Seeking the spirits who circle sacred springs and cleansing wounds at the source of pain. Making my own pools sacred. Slipping on the river’s icy mantle like a second skin and letting the rot slip away.
Music, energising as the sun. Music that moves like honey. Feral music clawing out of cold and ancient forests. Ethereal music that awes me with its eerie touch. Music that beckons, whispers, “Here are crossroads and dark unknowns, here is where you join the dance.”
What were your glimmers this year? What little candles will light your way through the murky, early days of a new year? Like last time, I’d love to know xx
p.s. This is my last letter before I take a break over the holidays. Thank you for supporting my writing this year, either by liking, subscribing, or leaving comments ~ it truly means a lot to me. I hope you have a magical and restful yuletide. See you sometime in January xx
Water was a major one for me this year too. Every time I went to a particular park with a dear friend this year, even if it was a sunny day, a thunderstorm would follow us. It was magical.
