Welcome to Selkie Grove
This diary is pledged to: the hidden self; the watcher in the wood; dark melodies in the windless corrie; moonlight; the wild dusk of a writer’s soul.
Note to new readers: Currently on hiatus while I finish an immersive Scottish Gaelic course on the Isle of Skye.
I.
I’m Kate — a writer living on the Isle of Skye, Scotland.
I was born ringle-eyed, a desirable trait in sheepdogs but suspicious in a woman. Unfortunately, I don’t live in an old folktale, therefore my eyes don’t mark me for a special or sinister destiny and I must make my own way in life. Probably the extra white in my iris comes from staring too often at the moon.
I dislike reality (unless it’s a May wood painted and perfumed with bluebells), pessimism, and car parks. I enjoy the company of kindred souls, nature, and dark music. Writing and daydreams are two constants in my life, helping me to create a more beautiful, bewitching reality.
I am the author of two books - Fireside Fairy Tales and Fireside Magic - story collections inspired by the folklore and magic of my native Scotland.
When I’m not writing, I am being written upon. My footsteps trace hill and riverside. I take the owl and cuckoo’s cry into my heart. I try to blossom with the beautiful parts of the world and root into the dark undertow of life’s current.
I trust that I am where I need to be, and I trust that you have arrived here for a reason too.
II.
Selkie Grove is my personal, writer’s retreat. It is letters penned at liminal hours, it’s midnight moon dances and a meeting place for souls stirred by mystery.
Free subscribers receive ‘dawn letters’ as often as I can write them. (Currently paused while I focus on my Gaelic studies)
Paid subscribers get an extra ‘dusk letter’ each month, dredged from the swampy, secretive depths, best read by the light of the full moon. (Currently paused while I focus on my Gaelic studies)
Thank you for reading and supporting my words. May Selkie Grove help you find the secretive, wild, and moonlit places within your own soul.
Kate xx
