I’m so grateful to you for sharing this beautiful story Kate! You know how much selkies mean to me but it’s interesting to find this in my inbox this morning when I just returned to my very first novel about a selkie. It’s been calling to me again and I decided to take the plunge and rewrite it. Your gorgeous story seemed like a sign from the universe that I’m on the right path. I fell in love with your characters and wish for a full length novel about them. 🥰

Sorry to jump on this thread, but I have to tell you both that the very same thing happened with me. Today I'm opening up my first novel about a selkie to see if I can bring it back to life, and then I saw Kate's email and it felt like a sign! Your story was gorgeous, Kate. I agree - I'd love a full length novel! Cait, good luck!! I'm always here to bounce around ideas with.

I feel the synchronicity of us all turning towards selkies at the same is no coincidence! Everything is coming to alignment :)

I think that's definitely a sign! I'm so glad you enjoyed the story. I meant to write my usual newsletter, but when it turned out to be another selkie tale I wasn't surprised - they've always felt magical and mysterious to me, and shown me the way I felt unsure.

Such a magical tale! It's difficult, and sometimes scary, to be fully ourselves in every situation. I feel the vulnerability when sharing my writing because my soul is wide open. But at the end of the day, I believe it's worth it.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Raquel. I feel sharing writing with people we trust is a good place to start, which is why I feel so grateful to be part of a community of supportive writers!

Love your writing Kate. Thank You for sharing it and exposing a part of you and who you are. Read one time and not sure who said it first but the definition of bravery is knowing something is dangerous but doing it anyway. We can stay safe and never show our true selves but that isn't living. The only way to really blossom is to open up and show the world how beautiful you really are. And, you are a beautiful person.

Thanks Wayne, your comment meant a lot. I agree that never showing our true selves isn't living. One of my favourite Anais Nin quotes sums it up beautifully - "“And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom".

Constantly balancing that push-pull ♥️ I don’t think I’ve ever shared something creative and not felt anxiety around it. Over the years, I’ve learned that the fear means that I’m pushing my boundaries and growing. I’ve also accepted that it’ll probably never go away.

P.s. I love this vision of the Selkie Child! It’s different from any other Selkie stories I’ve heard before.

Oh I love this sweet story so much! I just finished The Duke with Opal Eyes last night. Getting to read more of your work is such a treat!

Love this story! It's wholesome, happy, and reminds me that not everyone has ill intentions.

I've always considered myself an open book of sorts, so being vulnerable is just part of my nature. I think it's just a matter of sharing what you're comfortable with other people knowing. Trust takes time and it's hard to build over the internet but at the end of the day, I think we're all just looking for people to relate to.

Beautifully written and I hope you continue this story, chapter by chapter! While reading this, I had a memory of a beautifully illustrated book that I read to death when I was around 11 years old called "The Mermaid's Three Wisdoms." I had completely forgotten about it. Now I want to buy a copy of it again! The plot of that book and your story are not the same by any means but it's certainly a reminder of the fact that I've been attracted to stories & myths of the sea for a very long time: https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/362475
